About TLC's 3-Week College - 2025

For over 30 years Trial Lawyers College has been training trial attorneys to win.  This pioneering and exclusive course teaches the TLC Method for every trial skill and discovering the story of your case.

Experience an emersion into psychodrama and each part of a trial. Each attendee will experience the opportunity to work on their feet and build upon their current skills to become a more impactful plaintiff or criminal defense lawyer.  Attendees will be trained by multiple and varied groups of experienced TLC faculty members who have had their own resounding courtroom successes using the TLC Method. Learn that it is not one size fits all but rather you are the fit that is right.

Large and small group interactive training sessions will focus on Discovering the Story, Voir Dire, Opening Statement, Direct Examination, Cross Examination, and Closing Argument culminating in a mock trial.

The original Trial Lawyers College has discovered that a deeper understanding of oneself leads to a richer comprehension of clients, opposing counsel, judges, and, ultimately, jurors. The most effective way to gain this deeper understanding is through psychodrama led by licensed specialists. Psychodrama provides lawyers with the ability to put stories into action, keeping the human factor as part of the equation during all parts of a trial.

TLC-trained trial lawyers have proven time and again how the chances of winning dramatically increase if the jurors can better experience what the client has experienced using the TLC Method.

To make this course the most impactful event it can be, space is limited to only 50 attendees. A completed application to the course as well as the completed security application for Camp Dawson is required to be considered.

Step by Step Application
To complete your application:
- Be prepared to provide the name, telephone number and email address for 3 references.
- Be prepared to upload an 850-word essay
In 850 words or less, please tell us a bit about yourself. For example, what life experiences have most shaped you? What is your greatest accomplishment and what is your greatest loss? Please tell us about your dreams and your failures. We are not interested in the name of your law school, the clubs you belong to, your golf handicap, or your financial and social success. We are interested in learning something about you as a person. We want to know your life goals as a trial lawyer, as well as what you hope to obtain from attending our program.
Your completed application will be reviewed, and you will be notified as to whether you have been accepted.

Tuition Includes: all training, meals (as indicated on the agenda), single guest room lodging with private bath and parking.  Attendees have free access to an almost Olympic size indoor swimming pool and large modern exercise facility.  Laundry is available onsite.  Attendees must secure their own transportation to and from the course and during days off (as indicated on the agenda).

Course Fee: $5500             Application Deadline: May 5, 2025, 11:59pm

Invitations will be sent via email no later than May 30, 2025.

Psychodrama has been defined as the search for truth in dramatic action.  Unless one knows something of oneself, it is impossible to know much about the jurors, the judge, and the witnesses.

Discovering the Story - The Art Beyond Trial Skills
Trial skills are only part of being a force in the courtroom. The trial lawyers’ power originates from within. Knowledge of oneself gives the lawyer the capability to know others and to connect with each person in the courtroom including the witnesses, the judge and the jurors. The power of TLC’s methods come alive through creative, spontaneous, outside-the-box innovations that capture juries and move them to justice.

The TLC Method for Voir Dire trains trial lawyers to identify jurors who are favorable to the themes and objectives of the lawyer’s case, to develop powerful questioning techniques to uncover juror biases and attitudes and to build rapport with potential jurors to establish trust and credibility using the power of psychodramatic tools.

The TLC Method for Opening Statement trains trial lawyers to forge an honest relationship with the jury by giving a genuine voice to the client’s story and avoid damaging pitfalls to deliver a winning Opening Statement using the power of psychodramatic tools.

The TLC Method for Direct Examination trains trial lawyers to learn their client’s story and then bring their client’s story to life in a powerful way through their own witnesses. The lawyers will learn to recognize and avoid pitfalls of Direct Examination to deliver a powerful message to win justice for the client.

The TLC Method for Cross Examination trains trial lawyers to apply the psychodramatic methods that improve listening skills and therefore the ability to understand and empathize with everyone in the courtroom, including opposing witness.  The TLC Method provides trial attorneys the rare and important opportunity to not only build credibility but also transform an opposing  witness into a witness for their client.

The TLC Method for Closing Argument combined with the psychodramatic method teaches attorneys how to win justice for their clients by connecting their client's story, their loss and pain to those in a jury and courtroom.

Camp Dawson has a state-of-the-art conference center with modern facilities surrounded by the beautiful Appalachian Mountains.  Not only do they have your standard free internet and laundry, but they also offer an on-site restaurant and convenience store, relaxing swimming pool and sauna areas, an outdoor firepit area for winding down at the end of the night, and their very own pavilion and dock for fishing or paddle boats!  For more information go to their website Camp Dawson Event Center.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
Given the high cost of providing courses at easily accessible venues nationwide and those venues’ strict cancellation policies, TLC has had to make changes to its cancellation policy. To lessen the impact of this change in policy on our tribe, we offer the following options:
1. In the case where a student needs to cancel, they have 31 days prior to the course to cancel and receive a full refund. If it is after the 31-day deadline, to receive a full refund they may contact Brooklyn@triallawyerscollege.org with the name of a replacement student who is prepared to take their place. This is especially important to cover the cost of the committed lodging. After the replacement student completes registration including full payment, a full refund will be processed.
2. If no replacement is found for their reserved spot prior to the program, we will apply 50% of the paid tuition as a credit towards a future program, to be used within one year, and use the other 50% towards the unused lodging expense of the course cancelled. If you have any questions, please contact Brooklyn@triallawyerscollege.org.
