The Kelly Law Firm
Alumni TLC
Todd Kelly served as a U.S. Marine from 1987 to 1998, Kelly first served as a combat engineer officer, then, after he graduated from The Dickinson School of Law in 1995, he returned to service as a Marine judge advocate, eventually attaining the rank of Major.
He owned and managed The Kelly Law Firm in Houston from 2006-2012, where he gained national recognition for his representation of sexual assault victims against military contractors, Halliburton and KBR. His efforts changed the rules related to funding of military contractors overseas and defeated, for the first time, the mandatory binding arbitration provision in one major military contractor’s employment contracts.
Todd then joined the Carlson Law Firm, in Austin, Texas, were he became a partner as a trial lawyer for personal injury clients, including medical malpractice victims and sexual assault survivors. Todd left Carlson in 2023 to join two other attorneys in Austin for a brief time before reopening The Kelly Law Firm with his wife (and fellow TLC alum) Robbye, in May of 2024, which now does business as Lone Star Legal.
Todd has been honored with numerous awards and accolades over the years. He is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell, and has been named a Texas Super Lawyer every year (except one) from 2011 to the present. He has been recognized for Excellence in Personal Injury Litigation by Texas Monthly Magazine numerous times for his top verdicts, and was inducted into Texas Monthly’s Hall of Fame in 2013. He was selected as one of Houston’s Top Lawyers for multiple years before moving to Austin in 2012. Todd has received honors for the top 10 verdicts in Texas on several occasions and twice named in the top 100 verdicts nationwide.
Kelly is Board-Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is a member of The American Board of Trial Advocates. Nationally, Kelly is a member of the Million and Multi-Million Dollar Advocate’s Forums. Additionally, Kelly is member of the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Trial Lawyers, the Elite Lawyers of America, and the National Association of Distinguished Counsel.
He is a Past President of the Capital Area Trial Lawyers’ Association and a former PAC Chair for the Texas Trial Lawyers’ Association. Kelly also chaired the advisory committee to the Central Texas chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
Kelly was honored to join the faculty at the Trial Lawyers College in 2023.
In 2024, Kelly was chosen by the Capital Area Trial Lawyers' Association as the Scott Ozmun Trial Lawyer of the Year. That same year saw the release of Kelly's autobiographical testimonial book, Worth Dying For.
